Project and context
Parts of the plant and its building services were already undergoing trial operation, while construction work and documentation remained incomplete. The 2005 assessment found the project to be approximately 90 per cent complete and identified 264 defects, including 27 affecting safety and 141 affecting use of the facility.
Contribution to the project
Adam reviewed compliance with contractual requirements, classified construction defects and assessed proposed remedies and the work still needed. He set out a structured route to completion and acceptance: resolve defects affecting safety and use before accepting individual parts of the works, and make final acceptance conditional on completed works, functional testing and documentation.
Follow-up work
In 2006, Adam investigated the causes of progressive cracking in the production hall’s floor slab. In 2007, during the warranty period, he assessed the quality of earlier remedial work and defects that had developed since the earlier assessment. His involvement thus extended from independent assessment before acceptance to investigation of causes and follow-up inspections.
